Homeschooling

I miss homeschooling. I miss being a part of my sons' education and time management and activity choices and learning. It's been a very weird time for me, these past several weeks, dropping them off every morning at 7:45 and picking them up 6 1/2 hours later, having a vague idea of what they did and said and saw and heard, but not really knowing what - or if - they were learning.

I still read homeschooling blogs, websites, and forums, and today was directed to this article, written by a homeschooling dad who also works with the Arizona educational system and is a university professor on instructional design. Pretty firmly enmeshed in the world of public education, but still a chooser of homeschool for his own children. The article is long but I really like the way he outlines his responses to the question "Why do you homeschool?"

We don't yet know if we will ever return to homeschooling after this year; it's a work in process to see how the boys do, how satisfied we all are, and what level of education they end up getting from the public setting -- both academic and non.
